How are physicians chosen to be on this list?
The physicians on this list have indicated they are familiar with NTM lung disease and diagnostic and treatment statement/guidelines. Due to a general lack of physicians who are known to treat NTM patients, we accept physician referrals from patients or from the physicians themselves. Physicians are only added to the list with their express consent. There may be other qualified physicians in your area who are not on the list; however, this does not mean they are not knowledgeable or experienced at treating NTM lung disease. If you are a physician and would like to be added to the list, or would like to recommend a physician, email ntmmail@ntminfo.org or print and fill out this form and return it per the instructions.
We do know of some Respiratory Physicians in NSW who are treating NTM Patients. At this time, we do not have their formal agreement to publish their names in this web site. As soon as we have their formal agreement we will list their names and contact details here.

If your doctor suspects you may have TB, then we suggest you obtain a referral to the Royal Darwin Hospital.
The Centre of Disease Control -Tuberculosis / Leprosy / Nontuberculous Mycobacteria
Telephone: 08 8922- 8304
You will need to produce three mucus samples taken one week apart. The mucus samples will need to be kept in the refrigerator and taken to the Hospital.
The symptoms for TB and NonTuberculosis Mycobacterium (NTM) are very similar. If the Hospital considers you may have NTM, then be prepared for the diagnosis to take many months. NTM is difficult to diagnose and takes time to determine the best treatment regime for you.
