Nontuberculous mycobacteria are not usually considered to be communicable person to person. However, patients with Cystic Fibrosis may be vulnerable to passing certain infections among each other, and it is uncertain whether NTM can be passed from one CF patient to another. For this reason, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation recommends extra precautions specifically for CF patients when they are in contact with one another in a close setting.
