I use a Smart Vest and now have been prescribed a nebulizer to use with saline. The nebulizer came yesterday. I picked up the saline vials at a pharmacy but not covered by my Part D. I am going to see if Walgreens can get it. My question is where do people get their vials. Originally my prescription went to a company, Apria. I had such an ordeal with them on the phone being transferred back and forth that I gave up and asked the dr office to send the presciption somewhere else. I do not want to pay $35 for a month of saline vials. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Karen
I do not live in US so this will likely not help but just wish to report a similar experience. My saline 3% vials from a commercial supplier were originally rejected for reimbursement by my insurance. I protested asking to reconsider based on the chronic need and the much higher costs alternatives I am not in for the moment (antibiotics). They finally agreed but it took efforts. I was told that if I order through my clinic pharmacy which makes a compounding preparation under “NaCl” (sodium chloride) denomination (vs the brand name of the commercial supplier) I should not have had problem, which is illogical 😉 But any way, with perseverance, I got it through. Good luck!
I recently started 3% saline in addition to the vest and Aerkbika. Walgreens has it but Medicare doesn’t cover it. The price was over $26 for 60 vials which is enough for one month 2x a day. However my doctor’s nurse sent me a !ink to print a coupon from something called GoodRx and the price was reduced to $15.56.
Also my doctor recommended doing the saline with the Aerobika during the rest cycle on the vest.I
I REALLY didn’ want to do any of it but it does bring up a lot of mucus including thick globs. I hope bacteria is coming out with the mucus.
Tks. Since when are you doing the saline 2x per day? I also hope you are sterilizing after use. I only do 1x per day which is the min prescribed.
Albedo, my Dr prescribed 2x per day and I have been doing it that often for about 5 weeks. The videos on UTube show that we should wash the nebulizer cup parts in warm water and air dry after each use. I suppose it’s not much different than using an inhaler like Albuterol or drinking from a glass because it’s only our germs on it. However, I don’t want to inhale any of my bacteria that I’ve managed to bring up so I wash mine in very hot water using tongs and I soak it in vinegar, Dawn and hot water for a few hours every week or so.
I was told to use saline solution once a day and to wash parts with warm water and not to use detergent.
