Jacquesmoss, I’m not sure that pseudomonas, like MAC effects everyone in the same way.
I have had pseudomonas cultured in my sputum off and on for years. My NTM Dr (Dr Wallace at UTHCT) told me that he doesn’t treat it unless it’s causing a problem. When you have a flare up, the problem is trying to determine which is the cause for the problem. It could be bronchiectasis as well as the NTM acting up. (Most NTM’ers have both disease) Twice now, a year apart, I have had a situation where my Dr thought it was the pseudomonas and put me on 750mg Cipro 2X day for 10 days as that was the drug that my culture showed the bug was susceptible to. In both flare ups, the problem was not resolved which, in my case, meant it was something else.
There are still so many questions regarding this disease and so few answers. What bug is harmful to one, might not be harmful to another. That’s the very reason you have to find a really good NTM Dr, or one that consults with the big 3 centers. Carole
