just to give you a little encouragement about the IV Amikacin, I’ve been on it now for a little over 2 months, and so far still have my hearing intact. I get monthly hearing tests done by an audiologist. Also I’ve gotten so used to the Amikacin now (and my rifampin, ethambutol, and azithromycin pills) that I don’t much think about them except to wolf them down along with the 6 probiotic pills a day. I even went jogging the other day while my Amikacin was infusing from my pocket into my chest wall Groshong IV catheter, because I didn’t want to wait until it was too hot outside to go exercising. There were side effect at first, some sleepiness, dizziness, mild nausea if I tried taking the pills too early in the day, but that all has passed for the most part. So I hope that gives you some idea that sometimes things do get better regarding having to be on all this nasty stuff.
