Development of New Potential Treatment for NTM Lung Disease

CORAL GABLES, FL July 30, 2009  - NTM Info & Research (NTMir) announced today that it will work to promote the Transave-National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) study on ARIKACE™ (liposomal inhaled amikacin) in patients with nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) lung disease.  Transave plans to begin enrolling patients in 2010.

“We are extremely excited about the Transave-NIAID study on ARIKACE for treating pulmonary NTM disease,” said Philip Leitman, President of NTMir.  “There are limited viable treatments for NTM, and ARIKACE could be of significant benefit for NTM patients with M. avium complex and M. abscessus.

NTM Info & Research will assist Transave and NIAID in recruiting patients for the study in 2010.  “We expect a very positive response from the patients, who will be very interested in this trial,” said Leitman.

Study enrollment will begin in 2010.  NTMir will send emails to patients at that time.  The study is not open or recruiting patients yet.

More information about the study is available here.
